Breathe ~ Relax ~ Drink Black Tea Often
Leaves blow across paths
sounding confident, as though
they know what comes next
Fog waits for the sun
to warm it through to sheer mist
The palest of skies
Do not think of life
as the be all and end all
Let it flow, relax
Rainbow lorikeets
feed and screech in bottle-brush
Camera shy stars
Entering the street
Enveloped by sun, sky, breeze
Home away from home
Tree shade falls across
a road that used to be bush
Shadows favour all
News lies mouldering
in papers on the footpath
Read all about it
Scuttling in gardens
for the dark mulch of safety
A lizard’s retreat
Tail wag and bark go
together in the dog who
can’t tell if he’s mad
Parrots screech dull days
into heat and bright colour
Chasing clouded sun
Rain brings clarity
the day after running skies
Dust tamped, pollen drained
Travelling by foot
while my car is in the shop
I enjoy my speed
Tiny droplets fall
And make their surprising way
through thick canopies
Certain vantage points
show only roof- and tree-tops
Shaded lives beneath
Wreaths flower at ease
after yesterday’s service
Night terrors recede
Branches on the ground
tell last night’s stormy story
No need to make books
Vacant lots look sad
They endure time, space, freedom
awaiting a home
Darker clouds blow by
as white cumulus taunt them
to chase bluer skies
Gutters run for hours
after surprise winter storms
Tanks are tapped and tapped
Brick and timber rise
where ant hills used to flourish
Human ants arrive
Parrots low in trees
Close enough, beak to mouth, for
exchanges of news
